"Feelms" about LOVE TO ANIMALS / NATURE

1. “The Jungle Book”, Wolfgang Reitherman, 1967.

Synopsis: After the death of his parents, Mowgli, a baby boy of only two years old, is abandoned in the jungle and is picked up by a pack of wolves. Mowgli is bred as a wolf until he grows up and begins to fend for himself in the jungle. With the help of Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther, you will learn the essential values of life in the most natural way possible ;)

A Disney classic, based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling. It teaches us to love nature (unforgettable: the song "Bare Necessities", sung and danced with Baloo). A "feelm" with incredibly catchy and funny music, a great personification of animals and praising values such as friendship, companionship and, above all, Love for Mother Nature.

2. “A river runs through it”, Robert Redford, 1992.

Synopsis: Norman and Paul MacLean were born in the early years of the 20th century in a small town in Montana (USA). Children of a Protestant pastor, their childhood goes under the values of rigid Presbyterian education. Norman, the eldest son, has a calm and reflective temperament; Paul, the youngest, is more fiery and impulsive...

Over the years, Norman becomes a teacher and falls in love; meanwhile, Paul has stayed home and has adopted a self-destructing behaviour. However, there is something that will always keep them together: the river where they learned to fish.

Robert Redford returns to demonstrate his mastery with the camera, obtaining a visual plasticity that deserved the Oscar. The story shows the strong bond with Nature given by the fact of having been raised in direct contact with it. An enjoyment for the senses.

3. “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey”, Duwayne Dunham, 1993.

Synopsis: Three surprising friends - a retriever, a Bulldog puppy and a cat from the Himalayas - are separated from the family they live in, being left in the care of a friend of her. But they will not stay for long in their new home. Helpless, they embark on an incredible journey back home through unspoiled nature. The three friends have to gather all their courage and fully trust in their companions in order to survive ferocious animals and the harshness of the environment...

I still remember how I liked this movie the first time I saw it: because of the animals, the environment, the action, the mood swings. We could also include it perfectly under the category of "Movies about Friendship", but I want to make it prevail that the protagonists are animals and that the action passes full nature. Kids will love it, that's for sure!

4. “Free Willy”, Simon Wincer, 1993.

Synopsis: Willy is an impressive killer whale confined in a small water park in the North Pacific, away from its natural habitat and separated from all its family and home. No one in the park understands Willy's behavior and feelings, except for a 12-year-old boy, Jesse (Jason James Richter) who, like Willy, knows very well what it means to be away from his family.

A moving family film that teaches the importance of a child having an environment of affection around him, lesson in this case provided by an animal (in addition to the water park workers). It will also appeal to animal rights advocates. Good photography and unforgettable Michael Jackson's song included in the soundtrack ("Will you be there?").

5. “Hachi: A dog’s tale”, Lasse Hallström, 2009.

Synopsis: Parker Wilson (Richard Gere), a college music professor, collects a dog of Japanese origin and race Akita, whom he finds abandoned at a station. As no one claims it, he takes the dog home. Parker will then discover the intimate bonds that can unite a person and an animal.

Remake of the Japanese film "Hachiko monogatari" (1987) directed by Seijirô Kôyama and based on the true story of a dog so faithful to his owner that he went every day to wait for him at the station. Currently, at that station, there is a bronze statue erected in its honor.

Enthusiastic film, even more because it is a true story. We see how loyal dogs can be...wonderful.
